Peter Stone (petine@teleline.es) TRAVEL FEATURES, TRANSLATIONS. London born Peter Stone first visited Spain in 1962. He has resided over 27 years in different areas of the country including Málaga, Barcelona, Alicante, Palma de Mallorca and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and also lived in Greece and North Africa.. A life long lover of Spanish culture, history and language he made Madrid his home in 1998. He has written three novels and contributed to a wide variety of International magazines and guidebooks, including Spaingourmetour, Everything Spain, Time Out, Insight and Intelliguide. His book on the towns and villages of Madrid province Madrid Escapes was published by Santana in 2003 and he is the author of Frommer’s Madrid 1st and 2nd. Editions and Frommer’s Barcelona 2nd. The mountain town of
Buitrago del Lozoya 50 miles north of Madrid is hardly
the place you'd expect to find a Picasso museum. Yet it
harbours what is probably the most intimate exhibition of
the Málaga-born artistic genius's works. |
Of course,
they never met. A difference of 87 years before the
departure of one and arrival of the other saw to that.
But if they had you feel they might have got along. Two
larger-than-life figures - both in flesh and spirit -
obsessed with their particular branches of the arts. One
an undisputed genius throughout his creative life. The
other an awesome talent that glowed briefly and then
faded like a disintegrating meteor. |
Even today, when planets
seem closer, global horizons are shrinking and airports tend to sprout
up in the most isolated spot, Formentera, the small, sickle-shaped
island just south of Ibiza, has managed to fend off jet age intrusions
and maintain its unique air of secluded Mediterranean taste and
tranquility. |
